CLOTHED IN THE SPIRIT
Read Acts 2: 1-12
Jesus said, “I am going to send you what my Father
has promised; but stay in the city until you have
been clothed with power from on high.”
My friend invited me to be one of four groomsmen in
his wedding. After arriving in America, I was taken to a
shop where all the groomsmen were fitted for our tuxedos.
Even after a long journey from Europe, I could relax — not
having to worry about all the details of the role my friend had
entrusted to me.
In a similar way, our Lord prepared his disciples. He was
aware of their inadequate understanding of how to follow
God’s will daily. God sent the Holy Spirit to give them wisdom
and strength: “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit
comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem,
and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”
(Acts 1: 8).
The apostle Peter tells us that we all can be clothed with
the Holy Spirit (Acts 2: 38). What a wonderful prospect! We
don’t need to worry about
buying or making that
attire ourselves. The groom
had prepared everything
I needed for his wedding.
How much more can we
trust our lives in the hands of God, who fills us with the Holy
Spirit and empowers us every day to serve our Bridegroom!
Prayer: Dear God, thank you for constantly being within us
through the gift of your Holy Spirit. Amen.
